Slow down stoopid, it'is not a race.
We were very sorry to hear today that our old friends at The Old Market, Hove had ceased trading and closed its doors. We wish Stephen and his family all the best for the future and look forwards to more of the wonderful talent they brought to this Town in a glorious Regency building to boot. 1st August 2010. More on The Old Market, Hove closure here.
Hove Farmers Market. Brighton & Hove Farmers Market A vegetarian farmers' market. 10-3pm, first Sunday of the month. Ralli Hall, Near Hove Station. Call 01273 323200 for further details. This is a market of local producers and farmers, primarily Sussex Farmers, showcasing the finest foods out there. As with all local facilities and independent shops, markets, local produce and sussex businesses, the message is 'use them or lose them.' Rest assurred Tescoland is waiting in the wings to take over. Do you like the villagey atmosphere in Hove? Well be sure to support those that make it what it is because the conglomorates lurk like death on every corner; if local businesses fail you might miss them and not value their national and international tardy replacements. So, keep it real; keep the slow tide of rubbish at bay; keep it Hove. Support your local farmers, eat well and live well.
Good Food in Brighton & Hove
The Good Food Grants and Community Kitchen Equipment Grants schemes fund projects that promote healthy eating and sustainable food, and that aim to increase cookery skills across the city. Food projects based in schools or communities in Brighton & Hove are invited to apply.
The Good Food Grants programme is now it's its 4th year, while this is the second year of the Community Kitchen Equipment grants programme. Funded by NHS Brighton & Hove and administered by the Food Partnership, together these grants programmes have funded over 70 projects across the city over the past three years.
£25,000 of funding is available between the two programmes. The maximum grants size is £1,000; there is no minimum. Community groups and schools may put in an application to each programme, but can not apply for more than one project per programme. Phone 01273 431700 or email info@bhfood.org.uk for more details.
Prefer to grow your own but dont have the space? Join the shared growing spaces groups locally and share your produce grown in someone elses garden. As a community we no longer have to wait for Allotments to become available. When was the last time you enjoyed a mass produced strawberry from the supermarket? Terrible aren't they, enough to make you spit in your cream...so grow your own...........
The wonderful French Market on Hove Lawns each summer can also be found on George Street at times throughout the year. For an authentic taste of the glorious food across the Channel do make the most of the opportunities presented by the genuine food prudcers from across the Channel. The cheeses, breads and sausages are superb. Enjoy! Merde it is not! :-)
Please try not to send your unwanted belongings to landfill anymore. Landfill is running out. The powers that be are voting for incineration instead, and we all know how lethal that is! Use Freecycle instead. Someone out there will want whatever you have. Post it up, they will collect. What could be simpler. Rethink, recycle and re-use.
